| So I am (very) slowly accumulating some friends here in the area. Which is how I roll. So I stayed in town this weekend and didn't spend it all hanging out at my apartment! Friday night, when I was catching up on my week's online TV watching, Marty texted and wanted to hang out. Marty is a dear friend of Marcie's from back in the day and I've done a good job of aquiring him as a DL friend. He came over and played Boggle and I beat him, yessss. All those years playing against Adam were good for something. Marty is a small-town Minnesotan guy to the heart and he is going to take me ice fishing. He thinks I will like it. I disagree. Saturday, I went to Fargo and hung out with Alycia and baby Evelyn! We went shopping at Target and rearranged Alycia's apartment and watched Evelyn be cute! She is such a sweet, even-tempered child! I love being close enough to visit Alycia... I've definitely seen more of her in the past six months than I had in the six years before that. Sunday... I went to church and then later met up with one of the guys I met from eharmony, Pete. Don't get any ideas! I am not interested in him, dating-wise, but he is a really good brother in Christ and a supportive friend. He likes meeting for coffee and talking about the Bible, which was always one of my favorite things to do in Michigan and something I've missed since being here. So yay! And Sunday night, I went over to my friend Michele from work's house and watched The Amazing Race! She is actually like 20 years older than me, but hilarious and fun and sweet. She is also a small-town Minnesota person to the core. Love it. She loves watching reality shows, thinks $4 for a drink is an astronomical price, lives in the house where she grew up, and says things like "uffda" and "yepperdoodle." And is excellent at Minnesota goodbyes. Oh, and a quick update on eharmony. I mentioned a guy that I liked a lot awhile back... well, he did ask me out finally (yay!), which went well (yay!), and we even went out a second time (yay!) but then he decided that he wanted to date another girl (boo)... and so it goes. That is the update. My membership is over, but sometimes they have "free communication weekends" which I use if I have the chance. But don't worry. You will know if I have anything of significance to report about boys. The end! P.S. Fun holiday weekend upcoming... visiting family and friends in the Cities!! Watch for an "I'm thankful for..." blog, if I'm feeling ambitious. | | |
| So I discovered this website called BeRuby where you can get paid for surfing the internet! Okay, I know, this sounds like a scam, but I promise it is not a "get rich quick" kind of thing, because you really only make a little extra pocket change. You get a dollar for joining and then half a cent a day for going to places like facebook or gmail through their webpage. You also get a couple dollars when you shop online at certain places by clicking there through their website first. It's also kind of cool because you can set it as your homepage and organize your favorite links that way. And you can still set it up to get a feed of news headlines. Fun! I have made a big $1.10 so far... once you make a total of $10, you can cash it out to your paypal account, so the BeRuby people never get your personal information. Anyway... you can also make money by having people join your network, so if you want to join, make sure to go through my referral link: http://us.beruby.com/promocode/uWSbqv Fun times! love, Sarah | | |
| So, one time when my brother was in sixth grade or so, he did this project for school where he made a pie chart which listed his weekly TV watching habits and split it down by genre (e.g., sit-coms, cartoons, news, etc.). And for some reason this always stuck in my head, even though it was like twenty years ago and seemingly insignificant. I've sometimes thought of it when considering the change in TV genres. Reality shows weren't even a category back then and now they've taken over the airwaves. So anyway, I've become quite a regular TV viewer since I live alone and have discovered that I can look up all the shows online. And so I'm going to break down my own viewing habits, because I can. These are the shows that I watch every week consistently. Comedies (4/7 or 57%): *How I Met Your Mother - funny, funny, inappropriate but funny. And has Doogie Howser, so where can you really go wrong? *Glee - I kind of feel like this should go in its own category. Like "comedic musical drama" or something. But I'm keeping it with comedy. *The Office - Starting to get less funny but still worth watching. *Community - New favorite! On the same night as The Office! Highly recommended. Dramas (2/7 or 29%): *Gossip Girl - I always need one teen drama in my life. This is it. *Grey's Anatomy - I almost gave up on this show, but it's coming back around. Also, they often have guest stars from Everwood, so you can't go wrong. It's sad without George, but Alex Karev is getting better and that new guy is cute too. Am I right?
Reality (1/7 or 14%): *The Amazing Race - I love this show! I consider this a respectable reality show. I've started watching it with a friend from work on her big screen TV. Much more exciting that my little computer. So I'll admit that I sometimes watch other reality shows when they are on, and especially when there is a marathon. It just sucks me in. Also, I'll catch some other comedies, but not all the time. But I'm still confused on the topic of the sit-com. Are those comedies sit-coms? Oh okay, they are. According to what I can understand from wikipedia. The end! love, Sarah | | |
| Remember when I was Juno last year for Halloween? Too fun! I'm not dressing up this year, but I was thinking about what costumes are/should be popular this year. - Michael Jackson. Duh. Everyone wants to be the King of Pop. Especially because he's not with us anymore. - Jon and Kate. Right? So much drama in their lives. If I had short hair and and Asian boyfriend, I would definitely do that act. - Hidden Temple team. Okay. This has nothing to do with the past year. But I think it would be pretty much awesome to dress up as a team from Legends of the Hidden Temple, one of the best Nickelodeon shows from our childhood. (You can buy the t-shirts here: http://www.templeshirts.com/categories/Legends-of-the-Hidden-Temple-Shirts.aspx). I still plan on doing it in a future year. - Balloon Boy. Am I right? That kid in the silver homemade balloon got waaaay too much press to not be mocked as a Halloween costume. - President Obama. Can't go wrong with that. - Lady Gaga. Her outfits are already a costume, so it's easy. And I'm out. I'm off to Evelyn's first birthday party in Barnesville tomorrow! Yippee!! love, Sarah | | |
| So my dad was here this weekend, yay! We went to the highest-class restaurants in town... Zorbaz, Perkins, and some sort of family cafe whose name I can't remember right now. Also had what I consider to be the best Saturday schedule ever - sleep in, get up, leisurely drink coffee, drive while listening to public radio, go to the state park (Itasca!), come home, eat, and watch episodes of The Office. That's right, my dad watched some Office episodes with me and appeared to be entertained. He also fixed a few things at my apartment and told me a lot of his ridiculous jokes. Amber also stopped by today on her way to St. Cloud and hung out for a little while. All in all, a good weekend! I'm not particularly in the mood to go back to work tomorrow! love, Sarah | | |
